Earlier today we brought you national (day after) signing day at Turpin.  Now, we bring you the senior sports stars of Anderson High School.  They signed letters of intent with some great colleges late this morning.

More than 100 students and teachers crowded into a Turpin High School hallway this morning to congratulate four athletes. All of these young women are heading to college with sports scholarships.

14-year-old Valerie Borger (almost 15) is one to watch in the water at Turpin High School.  Even though she’s only a freshman, she set a school record Wednesday night 2/4 in the 50 yard freestyle.
Valerie swam 50 yards in 24.7 seconds.  The previous record was 24.97 seconds.  In swimming, that’s a big difference!

Tomorrow is national signing day.  That’s the first day when high school athletes are allowed to sign a letter of intent to attend a particular college, and to play a sport with that team.

The Cincinnati Business Courier and News 5 report that Anderson Township’s home of thoroughbred racing, River Downs is likely to close at the end of the 2009 season.  The track has a long history here in Anderson.  Seabiscuit raced there.

It was a heartbreaker for every player, student and fan of Anderson High School. With an repeat state title for Anderson just 32 seconds away, Sylvania Southview scored another TD for the win. Columbus DeSales was ranked number one in the state, and even Redskins coach Jeff Giesting was holding off on predicting a win when we heard from him yesterday.  But Anderson High School beat the favorite 14-10 last night in Dayton.
Next up, undefeated Sylvania Southview at 7pm Friday night in Massillon.
